•• The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption •• Nora's paternal great grandfather, David Danahy, joined the marble workers union in New York City when he immigrated from Ireland. Wanting to see more of his new country, he traveled with the union, making stops for work along the way. In circa 1905, David Danahy stopped in Covington, KY and actually laid marble on the cathedral’s altar! He returned to New York afterward and continued life there. Ironically, Nora's immediate family moved from New York to Kentucky in 1998! This familial connection is why Hunter & Nora chose to have their ceremony here.

• • • • The Netherland Plaza Hotel • • • • Hunter & Nora's reception venue is a 1931 French Art Deco style hotel. The Netherland Plaza opened in 1931 & is a National Historic Landmark to preserve it's authentic Art Deco architecture. The Hall of Mirrors ballroom where the reception will take place was modeled after the French Palace of Versailles. The hotel was frequented by famous guests including Winston Churchill, Eleanor Roosevelt, Elvis Presley, & even John and Jackie Kennedy, who hosted a gala in the Hall of Mirrors in 1959. The complex is an early example of the “city within a city” concept similar to Rockefeller Center in New York City. For more information to explore, check out the "Welcome to Cincinnati" page.
